DR CARMEN VAZQUEZ'S BIO

Dr. Carmen Inoa Vazquez is a Board Certified clinical and forensic clinical psychologist.  She has over 25 years of experience as a distinguished clinician, teacher, researcher, author, and program presenter, with both Spanish/English bilingual and English speaking populations.

Dr. Vazquez is a noted authority on Latin American mental health, particularly bicultural life styles.  She is an author of two books, Parenting with Pride Latino Style and along with Dr. Rosa Gil, The Maria Paradox.

She consults, supervises, and teaches at Bellevue Hospital, where she was the Director of the Institute for Multicultural Behavioral Health at Bellevue Hospital, coordinating research and training for doctoral students and Director of The New York University-Bellevue Clinical Psychology Internship training program for 16 years.  She was the Founder and Director of the Bilingual Treatment Program Clinic specializing in services to the unacculturated non-English speaking Hispanic population at Bellevue Hospital.

Dr. Vazquez is a Clinical Professor in Psychiatry at New York University School of Medicine.  She was an Adjunct Professor in the Graduate Psychology Program at City University of New York. 

Dr. Vazquez has a private practice in New York City where she provides psychotherapy and psychological evaluations.  She also consults in assessment of immigration matters.

Dr. Vazquez has received many honors, including a Certificate of recognition for Outstanding Career Achievement from Nassau County Medical Center, a Clinical Excellence Award from Bellevue Hospital Center, recognition for Education and Teaching from El Diario de la Mujer, Miami, Florida, and an APIC Excellence in Diversity Training Award.  Public recognition includes citations of honor from Claire Shulman, President Borough of Queens and Rebeca Sosa, Mayor of West Miami.  She was named “One of the Most Outstanding Women of 1997 by El Diario-La Prensa.  She is listed in Who is Who of American Women.

Born in the Dominican Republic, she moved to the United States at the age of 16.  By hard work and determination, she achieved immigrant aspirations through public higher education.  She graduated from Queens College, Cum Laude, and earned a Ph.D. from City University's APA Approved Program in Clinical Psychology. 

Dr. Vazquez is married and the mother of two sons, a financial analyst and a computer specialist.  When she manages to take a break from her busy work schedule, she enjoys traveling, playing tennis, gardening, and swimming and relaxing at the beach.
